A couple of weeks ago it was Bagheera’s birthday. Since he is much pickier about his stuff than Katniss is, Jeremy and I weren’t sure what to do to celebrate his birthday. He didn’t like balls, hair ties, or scary movies like Katniss. He is also is pickier about his treats than her. We were stumped.
Since coming to Japan, one of the things that every wife seems to collect Starbucks mugs. I held out for about a year before I decided to start collecting them too. I bought a Hiroshima coffee mug shortly after I came back in November. Then in February Starbucks released their Sakura line of mugs. As usual, they sold out everywhere in about 48 hours. Luckily my neighbor, Dacia, was in Tokyo where they sell out a bit slower and was able to grab me one. It is a really pretty metallic hot pink travel mug. Two weeks after Starbucks released these mugs, they released the Purity line of Sakura mugs. Dacia and I decided to drive to Hiroshima the day they released to go pick up some new mugs.
One of the things Mom really wanted to see when she came to visit was the Atomic Bomb Dome in Hiroshima.
Right before Christmas, Jeremy and I wanted to go back to Hiroshima to see the Dream Illumination Lights near Peace Park. We decided that we would take Katniss with us. My mom had given me a kitty stroller for Christmas and I was excited to try it. For all the outings we had done with cats, they had been close to base and only about an hour or two. Hiroshima would be an almost two hour drive one way alone but we felt that Katniss was ready for the challenge. We would have taken Bagheera too if we felt he was ready but he hasn’t been out as much as Katniss and not as comfortable with crowds yet.
One of the things that has been at the top of my Japanese bucket list is to go see a Sumo event. Normally they are really expensive and far from us so I haven’t gone yet. On October 29th though there will be a sumo event in Hiroshima!!! I can’t wait to go with Jeremy.
One of the great things about being stationed at MCAS Iwakuni is that new people are always arriving. One of the new neighbors in our building is Domenik and her husband, Larry. Last week Domenik and I decided that we needed more Lush in our life. If you don’t know what Lush is, I apologize. Please go to Lush and order a bath bomb ASAP. They are amazing.
Today has been an interesting day to say the least. I went to Hiroshima with some new friends Sam and Jaime (the couple I went to Costco with last week), and their friends Michael and Graham. We wanted to go try out the haunted house that we had been hearing about. It is only going on until September 8th. The Japanese haunted houses are associated more with Obon than Halloween. Today was our only chance to visit it before it closed. This haunted house was located by the Hiroshima Carps stadium.
Last week Jeremy and I went to Rabbit Island (Ōkunoshima, Hiroshima Prefecture) with Desirae, Dejay, Stephanie, and Anthony. It’s about 2 hours drive from base. It was a fun ride including when Desirae’s and Dejay’s van decided to eat the toll ticket right as we exited the expressway. It had slipped under the radio. It…
Speaking of adventures, on Friday, Danielle and I decided to head to Hiroshima for a quick day trip. She needed to buy a birthday present for friend of one of her kids and wanted to check out the Pokemon Center. I went just for the fun of it. It ended up being a silly time.
